Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana 5 (CELI 5)
The Certification Unit of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia has developed The CELI examination system, which tests the knowledge of learners of Italian as a foreign language.
Structure
- Reading; understanding specialised text and demonstrating an awareness of nuances and subtleties, and using cultural knowledge to infer meaning from the text
- Writing; expressing yourself effectively; writing on a variety of practical, social and literary topics
- Listening; understanding all forms and styles of speech. Texts take the form of news items, advertisements, conversations, discussions, literary excerpts, etc.
- Speaking; arguing in support of your opinion or hypothesis, summarizing and discussing a given visual prompt, commenting on a set of proverbs or sayings
- Structural competence; completing a number of tasks, which are based on use of structure and speech; multiple-choice fill in the blanks, fill in the blanks, proof-reading
Results
The speaking component carries 25% of the total marks, writing 30%, reading 20%, listening 15% and structural competence 10%. There are three passing grades: A, B and C.
